The other posts relating to dark teeth gave some options that should be tried first. If the color cannot be changed and the tooth is too broken down, more invasive procedures are needed. A porcelain veneer or crown is then needed to restore this tooth in the mouth to match the other teeth. An all ceramic crown or veneer without any metal is the preferable method to fix this tooth. The darker the tooth, the more it needs to be blocked out so the underlying color does not show. A crown takes off more tooth structure than a veneer, but the condition of the tooth dictates the actual procedure. Fixing a single dark tooth is one of the hardest things in dentistry to accomplish. The success is great, but often takes a lot of time.
