Allergic reactions are a chain of defensive physical reactions in the body. They occur when your immune system – sometimes mistakenly – targets a substance as an invading organism. Food and environmental allergies unleash a wide range of symptoms that affect virtually every part of your body – from unpleasant symptoms such as indigestion and bloating to severe illnesses such as arthritis and chronic infection. Allergies even affect the central nervous system, causing serious disorders that include depression, anxiety and chronic fatigue, ADHD, headaches, weight gain, chronic ear infections or chronic cough.

Food allergies cause the immune system to synthesize and release antibodies, which stimulate the release of reactive chemical agents, such as histamine. These agents dictate your moods. Eventually, they also produce far-reaching effects on your immune, endocrine and nervous systems.

In three out of five people with food intolerance, reactions are delayed, not immediate. Additionally, many commercial foods contain hidden ingredients that are agents in many allergic reactions. You therefore need help to connect the symptoms with its source.

Next week we continue our talk with allergy testing.
